How can it already be Thursday evening? I had every intention to share information regarding the 18th Annual Lake Chicot Fall Fest information before now, but there’s still time to make plans to attend this weekend (Friday, October 24 & 25) in downtown Lake Village. Normally when I see carnival crews assembling their rides, I drive miles out of the way avoiding that area so my daughter doesn’t see it.
That isn’t the case with our local festival. The rides are located right on the banks of our beautiful Lake Chicot and the views are spectacular from the ferris wheel.
Not only are their rides and games to play. There are family friendly activities scheduled throughout the two day event that everyone will enjoy.
The Lake Chicot Fall Fest kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday (today) with live music, children’s games, a good ol’ fashioned hayride and your classic carnival midday with rides and carnival games.
On Saturday, bring your running shoes to register for the festival’s annual 5K road race. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8. In addition to the 5K is a fun 1 mile race. You’ll see my little Emmy Jo running the mile. This was her last year.
As soon as the race is over, free breakfast is provided by the First Presbyterian Church and serviced at the Chamber of Commerce Office at 111 Main Street. (Donations will be accepted for Lake Village’s Food Pantry).
No festival in the Delta is complete without a Barbecue Cook-off and my husband, Brad is so looking forward to cooking with his Chicot Memorial Medical Center Team. You’ll find them West of the Court House so stop by and say hi. I’ll be there much of the time providing support. This is a bonafide Cook-off with very strict rules.
At 11 a.m. begins the Best Dog Gone Dog Show, Ever! Awards will be given in the following categories: Tricks, Cosutme, Best Small Dog…Best Large Dog and Best of Show! The cost is $10 per dog. This event is a hoot and generously sponsored by Crossroads Veternary Clinic. Our sweet rescue dog (she’s part black lab and dachshund), Heidi, won Best Small Dog last year. We were so proud of her. Emmy Jo will be showing Heidi again this year.
You know, no festival is complete without beauty pageants and those begin at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s School Auditorium. Our darling friend, Molly Beth will be competing in the talent division and we know she will wow the judges.
Around the square, children will have opportunities to have their faces painted by local artists. The other activities include baking contests, pumpkin painting and carving contests, a Car Show as well as an Antique Truck and Tractor Show.
And I haven’t even mentioned the food. There is food for everyone’s liking.
There is something for everyone. And y’all the Lake Chicot Fall Fest is fun!
For more information call the Lake Village Chamber of Commerce at 870-265-5997.
I hope to see you there. Remember, I’ll probably be at the Chicot Memorial Medical Center Cooking Station.
